‘Absolutely terrific’: Danny Murphy raves about 22-year-old Newcastle United want to sign, says he’s got ‘everything’

Danny Murphy has raved about reported Newcastle United target Azzedine Ounahi and said the midfielder has got ‘everything’ during BBC’s coverage of Morocco vs Croatia yesterday

Newcastle will be aiming to pick up where they left off after the World Cup as they currently sit third in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe’s men haven’t suffered defeat since their trip to Anfield back in August and they are currently mounting a surprise assault on the top four.

The Magpies have been astute in the transfer market so far and signings like Sven Botman, Bruno Guimaraes, Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier have proved to be excellent value for money.

Howe will be eager to bolster his squad once again next month as he aims to keep his side in the conversation for Champions League qualification. And they’ve been linked with a move for World Cup star Ounahi.

90 Min reported last week that Newcastle are one of the many sides tracking the Angers SCO midfielder

Ounahi is coming off the back of a brilliant World Cup campaign with Morocco and was in action for the north African side in the third-place play-off yesterday. And Danny Murphy waxed lyrical about the 22-year-old’s displays in Qatar while co-commentating on the game.

Murphy raves about Ounahi

Morocco fell to defeat in their final game in Qatar as Croatia secured third-place at the World Cup with a 2-1 win.

Despite the loss, Ounahi impressed in the middle of the park and Murphy was full of praise for his performance.

“Ounahi has everything he needs to become a top midfielder, great energy, fitness, demands the ball off the players all the time,” he said.

“Every time I’ve seen him he has been absolutely terrific.”

Joelinton and Guimaraes have formed a formidable partnership in midfield under Howe but the Newcastle boss will certainly need to add depth to his squad in January.

Sean Longstaff has also impressed playing alongside the pair but Ounahi could push the Englishman for a place in the starting line-up.

Ounahi’s talents had gone under the radar before the World Cup but 90min reports that Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan and Juventus all hold an interest in the Moroccan star.

L’Equipe reports that Leicester City are also planning to bid £40 million for Ounahi as the race for the midfielder looks set to heat up.

Based on his World Cup displays, Ounahi would be an excellent addition to Newcastle’s midfield and would give Howe another solid option in the middle of the park.
