‘Absolutely stupid’: Jamie Carragher slams what 28-year-old Liverpool player did in last five minutes of Leeds United loss

Jamie Carragher slammed what Liverpool defender Andy Robertson did in the last five minutes of last night’s game on Sky Sports

Jurgen Klopp’s men fell to a 2-1 defeat at Anfield after Crysencio Summerville grabbed a late winner for Leeds United.

Liverpool had fallen behind inside the first five minutes of the game after Rodrigo latched on to a poor back pass from Joe Gomez to put the ball into an empty goal.

But the Reds responded quickly and got themselves back on level terms through Mohamed Salah just 10 minutes later.

Illan Meslier put in an inspired display between the sticks for Leeds, making a series of impressive saves.

And after Liverpool fell behind in the 89th minute, they pushed for an equaliser. But Carragher was unimpressed with Robertson leaving his foot in on the Leeds goalkeeper.

Carragher slams Robertson

Klopp’s side were knocking on the door and pushing for a late equaliser after going behind at Anfield.

Salah attempted to play Robertson through on goal in the 91st minute but the pass was slightly too heavy.

The 28-year-old realised he wasn’t going to get to the ball before Meslier but his trailing foot caught the Leeds man in the face.

Carragher blasted Robertson after the incident and feels it gave Leeds time to reset after a flurry of Liverpool attacks.

“It’s absolutely stupid from Andy Robertson. He leaves his foot in which could cause him a problem himself,” Carragher said on Sky Sports last night

“But the goalkeeper’s got to go down and that clock’s ticking away. He’s never going to get there.

“Just that trailing right foot. Just seems to hand his right foot there a little bit longer than maybe he should.

“It’s a daft thing to do because this is what you’re going to get now. Liverpool need the ball back in play as soon as possible. He was never going to get that ball.”

Liverpool have fallen to successive Premier League defeats over the past week after they had appeared to have turned their league form around.

The Reds had beaten Manchester City and West Ham United but have now suffered back-to-back losses to Nottingham Forest and Leeds.

Klopp’s men were wasteful in front of goal last night and will be hugely disappointed to have lost the game, especially at Anfield.
