‘Absolutely sensational’: BBC pundit blown away by how good one Newcastle player was v Forest tonight

Newcastle eventually saw off Nottingham Forest tonight in another pulsating Premier League encounter at The City Ground.

Eddie Howe’s side had to go ahead three times before eventually keeping Forest out at the other end and securing a massive three points on the road.

For Howe and Newcastle, it was a welcome away win in what has been an inconsistent season disrupted by injury problems and a lack of spending in January.

However, one player who has been a constant for the Mags is midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The Brazilian got his name on the scoresheet twice tonight and watching on for the BBC, former PL defender Stephen Kelly was in awe of the way Guimaraes took his second goal of the night.

“It is an absolutely sensational finish from Bruno Guimaraes. He steps onto the ball and just caresses it into the bottom corner. Dan Burn stands across a defender to stop an attempted block on the shot, so it may be looked at by VAR, but take nothing away from the strike,” Kelly said.

Guimaraes shows his class for Newcastle

When times get tough, teams need their best players to step up to the mark and Bruno Guimaraes did that tonight.

On a cold and wet night in Nottingham, the Samba star rose to the occasion and as Kelly says here, the second goal was quite something.

Newcastle have been a touch unlucky this season with injuries but they are still within range of making a push for the European spots.

Indeed, with Guimaraes in this sort of form, anything is possible.

The key for Newcastle now is to get through to the end of the season with no further injury problems and try to keep their top players fit and firing.

If they can do that, then they have half a chance of upsetting the apple cart.
