'Absolutely perfect': Sky pundit stunned by Arsenal 21-year-old v Brighton

Arsenal have ended 2022 seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners ran out 4-2 winners against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.

Arsenal went into the match in wake of Manchester City stumbling to a 1-1 draw with Everton.

And just 65 seconds into the match, Bukayo Saka opened the scoring for the Gunners.

Gabriel Martinelli saw his shot blocked, but the ball fell to the England international, who made no mistake.

Arsenal legend and Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith loved what he saw from Saka.

“The first touch is absolutely perfect,” he said, via the Premier League website (31/12, 17:33).

“And he finishes like he’s playing in training in five-a-side.

“That is superb from Bukayo Saka. Thank you very much.”

Martin Odegaard then made it 2-0 in the 39th minute, scuffing his shot into the ground but still finding the net.

Arsenal struck at the perfect time because Brighton had been threatening.

And then, early on in the first half, the Gunners did it again.

Eddie Nketiah was on hand to make the most of Robert Sanchez’s fumbled save to tap into the empty net.

To their credit, Brighton never gave up and gave Arsenal a fright.

First, they made it 3-1 when Kaoru Mitoma struck after a through-ball by Pascal Gross on 65 minutes.

Then, Gabriel Martinelli drove into the area and took a shot, which went through Sanchez.

However, Brighton then made it 4-2 through Evan Ferguson before Kaoma found the back of the net late on.

The latter goal was disallowed for offside, a big let-off for Arsenal as they hung on to all three points.

A superb opener from Saka and an overall good display from the Gunners, albeit with some defensive hiccups.

Not that Arsenal fans will care at this moment in time – not a bad way to see in the New Year!
