Manchester United produced the goods for Ruud van Nistelrooy in his final game in temporary charge as the hammered Leicester City at Old Trafford.

United looked back to somewhere near their best as goals from Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and an own goal helped them to victory.

With Ruben Amorim set to join the club this week and take over, Van Nistelrooy will hope he has done enough to earn some sort of role within the club.

Of course, Van Nistelrooy deserves some credit for getting a reaction from the players in recent weeks and one man who has starred for him is summer signing, Noussair Mazraoui.

Mazraoui was brought in by Erik ten Hag and is now kicking on, playing a crucial role in United’s second goal against Leicester.

Noussair Mazraoui praised for ‘perfect’ moment during Man United v Leicester

Speaking for Premier League productions about the contribution from Mazraoui in United’s second goal, former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison lauded the cross from United’s £17m signing.

“The ball in from Mazraoui is absolutely perfect, and something that Man Utd don’t do often enough. It takes a deflection before going in, but it’s all about the cross from the left,” Hutchison said.

Mazraoui will want a big role under Ruben Amorim

The few games under Ruud van Nistelrooy were essentially an audition for some of these players at United to stake a claim for a role under Amorim.

Mazraoui has certainly looked the part in recent weeks and his performance today, not just his assist for the second goal, was excellent.

Sometimes, a change in system or personnel can really impact a player and Mazraoui looks like being someone who’s benefitted from that change.

The key for him now is to kick on and impress Amorim as he tries to cement a place in the XI going forward.
