‘Absolutely not…’: Darren Bent says there’s no way £45m Man City star would start ahead of £25m Tottenham man

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has claimed that Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips would not get into this Tottenham Hotspur side ahead of Yves Bissouma.

Spurs returned to winning ways against Newcastle United last weekend, and they are in a good place right now. However, additions in the January transfer window are still a necessity, and Phillips has been heavily linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Darren Bent says Kalvin Phillips would not start ahead of Yves Bissouma at Tottenham

When Ange Postecoglou had everyone available at Tottenham in the first couple of months of the season, Spurs were on fire.

The North Londoners were unbeaten in their first 10 Premier League games of the campaign. They were fantastic to watch, but following injuries to key players, they went on a terrible run where they picked up just one point out of a possible 15.

Tottenham got back to winning ways with a fantastic victory over Newcastle United last weekend, and Yves Bissouma had another impressive game.

Spurs, however, are still being linked with moves to sign other midfielders, and Kalvin Phillips’ name has come up on a few occasions.

While discussing the Manchester City star’s future, Andy Goldstein asked Darren Bent if Phillips would get into this Tottenham side.

The pundit replied: “Instead of Bissouma? Absolutely not!”

Yves Bissouma is better than Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips has been at Manchester City for almost 18 months now, but Pep Guardiola hasn’t even given him 900 minutes of game time in all competitions.

Yes, most midfielders in the world don’t stand a chance when they’re competing for a place with Rodri in the middle of the park, but Phillips, who joined City for £45 million (Sky Sports), would struggle to get in many other top sides as well.

Tottenham have Yves Bissouma, who has been one of their best players since the start of the season. The £25 million (BBC) Mali international has had his issues with discipline, but apart from that, he has been brilliant.

We agree with Bent – if Phillips does come to Tottenham in January, we don’t think he’ll get into the side over Bissouma.
