Despite a frustrating result for Newcastle United tonight, Ally McCoist was blown away by the quality of one performance against AC Milan.
McCoist was covering the huge European night for TNT Sports and was almost lost for words when Newcastle went ahead.

As well as celebrating the role that both Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento played, McCoist thought Joelinton’s strike was outstanding.
The pundit enjoyed all of the intricacies of the goal, which were celebrated by the strike that followed.
McCoist said: “I’ll tell you what, it all comes from Gordon going into that pocket because Calabria can’t go with him. What a hit. What a hit. Absolutely magic.
“So what happens there is Anthony Gordon can sense it, he goes into the pocket, he picks it up and hits it wide and Joelinton just fires it, smashes it into the top corner.
“What a goal. It’s just a brilliant goal all round. But very clever play down the left hand side involving Gordon and Livramento.”
Of course, it is a huge shame that the goal didn’t turn out to mean for Eddie Howe’s team.

The pundit also went on to discuss the improvement that the £40m Brazilian had made over the last year or so as well.
McCoist thought Joelinton was unrecognisable from the faltering striker that existed at St. James’ Park before Howe’s arrival.

And although Newcastle are now contending with the disappointment of not qualifying tonight, they can be proud of their efforts across the campaign.
It was a great journey, one filled with excellent moments for Howe’s team, and one that delineates why they need to qualify again this season.
But perhaps the failure to fall into the Europa League as a consolation will hurt just as much as the Champions League exit tonight.
That being said, Joelinton was outstanding against AC Milan, and he’ll be hoping this is just the start of such Newcastle nights.
Of course, injuries were a big factor in Newcastle coming up slightly short at the conclusion of the group stage.
And the club are now being linked with a £14m arrival in January.
