‘Absolutely immense’: Some rival fans wowed by West Brom player’s ‘class’ display yesterday

West Bromwich Albion defender Branislav Ivanovic put in an impressive performance last night which saw praise from Baggies fans and neutrals alike.

The Serbia defender joined the Baggies on a free transfer last month, having left Zenit Saint Petersburg in July after a three-and-a-half-year stint.

Prior to his time in Russia, Ivanovic had a glittering spell with Chelsea, winning three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one League Cup, one Champions League and one Europa League.

The 36-year-old made his West Brom debut in the League Cup loss to Brentford in September but has had to wait to make his league bow for Slaven Bilic’s side.

This came last night as he played the full 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Burnley at The Hawthorns, the first stalemate of the 2020-21 top-flight campaign.

Ivanovic not only impressed in a defensive capacity but also marshalled the back line superbly and could’ve even opened the scoring from a corner.

Here is what some fans of West Brom and former club Chelsea said about the player’s heroics on the night:

Ivanovic made 377 competitive appearances for the Blues between 2008 and 2017, registering 34 goals and 34 assists.
