‘Absolutely fantastic’: Jamie Carragher left amazed by 26-year-old Newcastle United man’s work-rate today
Eddie Howe’s men picked up an impressive win in north London today as they beat Antonio Conte’s side 2-1.
They became the first team to win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season after goals from Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron.
But Joelinton’s work-rate in the second-half left Carragher amazed as he tracked back to help his teammates.
Carragher left amazed by Joelinton
Spurs got a goal back through Harry Kane at the beginning of the second-half and were pushing for an equaliser.
Rodrigo Bentancur dribbled past two Newcastle players and surged up the pitch in the 65th minute.
But Joelinton sprinted back to make a crucial tackle and prevent Spurs from hitting the Magpies on the counter.
And Carragher was full of praise for the 26-year-old on Sky Sports today.
“Brilliant Joelinton. Absolutely fantastic,” he said.
“That was looking like a real problem for Newcastle.”
Joelinton has transformed his Newcastle career ever since his position was switched from a striker to a box-to-box central midfielder.
The Brazilian put in another brilliant display today against Spurs and his efforts were clearly recognised by Carragher.
Newcastle are on a brilliant run of form at the moment and have now jumped to fourth in the Premier League table after today’s win.
Howe will be delighted with the way his team are playing right now and they have picked up some impressive results of late.
The Magpies earned a point at Old Trafford last weekend and have now beaten Spurs away from home.
