'Absolutely delighted': Some Celtic fans are 'buzzing' over club announcement on £800,000 player
Celtic have announced that Leigh Griffiths has signed a new one-year contract extension with the club.
The Hoops confirmed on their official website that the former Wolves star will remain with the club another season. Griffiths struggled for fitness last season and was limited to appearances off the bench for Celtic.
Griffiths said on his new contract: “I am delighted to extend my time at the Club. Celtic is a club I love and want to do all I can to play my part again in bringing success to our supporters.
“I’m looking forward to the season ahead and working with the new gaffer and the rest of the lads. It is an exciting time for the Club and I wanted to be part of the Club’s future. I’ll be doing everything I can to help us get back to where we all want to be.”
Griffiths joined the club seven years ago for a reported fee of £800,000 according to the Daily Record. Since arriving in Celtic the striker has played over 250 games for the club, scoring 145 goals in all competitions.
Moreover, the Scotland international looked likely to leave Celtic this summer. However, new manager Ange Postecoglou has awarded the former Hibernian star a second chance with the club.
Furthermore, on social media, some Celtic fans are buzzing that Griffiths as an opportunity to impress the Australian manager next season.
Here’s what some Celtic supporters had to say on Twitter about Griffiths’ a one-year contract extension on Twitter…
Great move, a proper fit Griff is best striker in Scotland. He's a lucky Bhoy to still be at the club… Hopefully he repays us— Brendan Dorrian (@brendydor) July 1, 2021

We know he can score goals so if Ange can get him fit and motivated he will do a job but he must want it himself. HH— Celtic Gossip (@CelticGossip) July 1, 2021
Absolutely delighted with this news, prove the haters wrong Leigh 🍀— 🏴Stephen Lynn🏴 (@Loobs1968) July 1, 2021
Delighted to hear this because as has been said, I'd rather see him staying with us than scoring goals another team in the SPFL which is what would have happened.— JoeH (@giggsterer) July 1, 2021
Griffiths scored just seven goals for Celtic last season as the Hoops won no silverware and finished second in the Scottish Premiership standings behind Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.
