'Absolutely brilliant': Sky pundit wowed by £44k-a-week Everton player in first-half v Spurs
Everton winger Demarai Gray has been praised by Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman for his first-half chance against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Toffees have travelled to North London hoping to bounce back following their defeat to Manchester United last weekend.
Prior to that defeat, Everton had gone on a seven-match unbeaten run before losing at Goodison Park on Sunday.
Frank Lampard’s charges sat deep for much of the opening 15 minutes of the match against Antonio Conte’s side.
Although the hosts had a decent chance in the 22nd minute, Everton then came close to opening the scoring moments later.
Toffees defender Conor Coady sent a long ball towards Gray, who got the better of Rodrigo Bentancur and raced into the box.
The £44,000-a-week ace was only about 10 yards out, but ended up blazing his effort high into the stands.
Although Gray spurned a good chance to make it 1-0, Goodman nonetheless liked what he saw in the build-up.
“It is absolutely brilliant from Gray,” said Goodman (15/10, 17:54). “He is direct and drives on, but loses composure at the crucial time.”
Everton threatened again on the half-hour mark, with Seamus Coleman having a go from range and Tarkowski heading wide from the resulting corner.
And late on in the half, Amadou Onana sprinted through a static Tottenham defence, but skied over from 12 yards out as the half-time whistle blew on a 0-0 scoreline.
