Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith was blown away by Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier’s display against Southampton today.
The Magpies travelled to the south coast aiming to maintain their brilliant recent form and keep themselves amongst the top-four.
Eddie Howe’s men weathered the storm slightly in the first-half but began to dominate the game.
A touch of class from Miguel Almiron gave the Magpies the lead ten minutes before half-time. Goals from Chris Wood, Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes in the second-half secured an impressive win for Newcastle.
And Trippier’s brilliant assist for Willock’s goal earned him some praise from Arsenal legend Alan Smith.

Smith blown away by Trippier
The £12 million man won the ball back just inside his own half and released a perfectly-weighted through ball to Willock.
The former Arsenal midfielder finished calmly into the bottom corner and Smith was full of praise for Trippier’s involvement in the goal.
“Absolutely brilliant work from Kieran Trippier to set this one up,” Smith said while commentating on Sky Sports today.
“They go from one end of the pitch to the other with such efficiency.
“He’s sharp, he’s quick, he gets there first, Trippier. And the pass is beautifully weighted.”

Romain Perraud did grab a consolation goal for the Saints but Newcastle saw out the game to win 4-1.
Trippier put in another impressive display from right-back today before being substituted in the 80th minute.
The England international has been a revelation for the Magpies ever since he made the switch from Atletico Madrid back in January.
Newcastle continued their brilliant run today and now sit third in the table. Of course, Tottenham are yet to play today but it’s been an impressive start for the Magpies.
Howe will be delighted with his side’s displays so far this season and they haven’t suffered defeat since losing 2-1 at Anfield back in August.
