Absolutely 'brilliant' manager now a free agent, weeks after reported Spurs talks
Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Antonio Conte is now a free agent.
The 51-year-old, who was linked with Spurs several weeks ago, has left Inter Milan not long after winning the Serie A title.
Tottenham are currently on the lookout for a new manager after parting company with Jose Mourinho last month.
Earlier this month, Corriere dello Sport reported that Tottenham have been in contact with Conte’s representatives.
At the time, the outlet claimed that Conte didn’t rule out the possibility of a move to north London.
Talks were said to have been fruitful and even reached a point where the two parties were discussing the current Tottenham squad, added the report.
Conte guided Inter to their first Serie A title in 11 years but was embroiled in a dispute with the club’s owners after they proposed a downsizing of his squad.
According to Sky Sports, Inter chairman Steven Zhang asked Conte to cut his wage bill by 15 to 20 per cent and potentially sell players worth up to £70m this summer.
The outlet claims that Conte has agreed a deal with the club’s owners which will see him paid €7m (£6m) for the final year of his contract.
Conte apparently reaffirmed his commitment to the Nerazzurri during talks with Spurs a couple of weeks ago.
However, the latest news have potentially paved the way for him to go elsewhere.
Conte is an experienced manager of the highest calibre with a superb CV who’d be a great shout for Spurs.
“I think if Tottenham got Antonio Conte, they’d be able to keep Harry Kane – he’s a brilliant manager,” Jamie O’Hara told talkSPORT.
