James Maddison has lauded Heung-min Son after an absolutely brilliant moment for the Tottenham Hotspur captain on his return to the side on Saturday.

Spurs picked up a big win in the fight to make the top four in the Premier League. But, once again, Ange Postecoglou’s men needed to do it the hard way.

Brighton took the lead inside the first 17 minutes from the penalty spot. Pape Matar Sarr equalised around the hour-mark. And that set the stage for an amazing moment in the 96th minute, with Brennan Johnson scoring the winner for the home side.

The goal came about after a superb cross from Heung-min Son. Of course, Son was making his return after going away on international duty with South Korea. And he marked that return with an assist.

Speaking on Spurs Play, James Maddison was full of praise for the skipper.

“The actual winning goal was a really nice goal – a really good move from the build-up all the way. It’s exactly how the gaffer wants us to play. I think he’ll be happy with that one,” he said.

“The gaffer always goes on about how he wants the other winger at the back post and it’s an absolutely brilliant cross from Sonny. That’s the quality he’s got.

“Brennan’s listening and learning and taking on and that’s what the gaffer wants him to do. He’s scored a couple at the back stick now so fair play to him.”

Spurs managed to clear tricky hurdle over last few weeks

Tottenham did fairly well while they were without their talisman. They won two and drew two of their five games without the 31-year-old. Their only defeat came against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

They also scored eight goals in that run. And when you consider how many injuries they have had to deal with this season, you have to give Tottenham huge credit for how they got through that period.

Son is now back in the fold. And Tottenham’s winner is a further reminder that you cannot ever rule Spurs out, particularly when you consider just how much quality they now have in attack with Johnson finding his feet, Richarlison in fine form and James Maddison rediscovering his sharpness.
