This January transfer window has been a quiet one, but there’s one rumour that simply won’t go away.
Indeed, Conor Gallagher to Tottenham has arguably been the biggest story of this month so far, and as we head into the final 24 hours of the window, there’s still an outside chance that Spurs make this move.
Gallagher is a player that Chelsea could sell as they need to raise funds in terms of FFP, and selling an academy product is a great way to do just that.
Speaking to Squawka, Glen Johnson has been discussing the idea of Gallagher joining Tottenham before the transfer deadline, and the pundit says that this move would be absolutely bonkers.

Gallagher to Tottenham would be bonkers
Johnson shared his verdict on the midfielder.
“It’s absolutely bonkers. It depends who’s creating the rumours as it’s probably come from Tottenham rather than Chelsea. I’d be mind blown if they let this happen, it can’t happen. There’s no smoke without fire so maybe there have been talks in the past. They were talking at the start of the season if he was going to get any game time, if he was going to go out on loan, so maybe it’s just continued from that. But in terms of how the season has worked out and he’s played a lot more than people would have thought and he’s played well, I think they’d be crazy to get rid of him,’ Johnson said.
Bizarre
We can absolutely see where Johnson is coming from here.
Gallagher to Tottenham would be a very strange move.
Chelsea have never been in the business of selling their key players late in a transfer window, and certainly not to one of their biggest rivals.
Gallagher is one of Chelsea’s most important players, he’s their de facto captain at the moment, and the idea of selling the midfielder to Tottenham so late in the day is nuts.
This one is probably unlikely, but the fact that it’s even being discussed as a possibility at this point is remarkable to say the least.
