'Absolutely amazing': Gary Neville spotted what Bukayo Saka did straight after scoring for England yesterday
Saka rounded off an impressive England display with a delightful chipped finish over Chelsea shot stopper Edouard Mendy last night.
The Three Lions have now set-up a mouthwatering quarter-final clash against France after a 3-0 win over Senegal.
Saka combined brilliantly with Phil Foden to put the game out of reach for the AFCON champions and Neville loved seeing the Arsenal winger’s celebration.
Neville on Saka
Foden played a brilliant ball across the box in the 57th minute and Saka produced a delightful first-time finish.
As soon as the ball hit the back of the net, the Arsenal winger ran straight over to Foden and pointed at the Manchester City man.
The pair then shared a hug before the rest of the England players swarmed them. And Neville absolutely loved Saka’s celebration.
“We love the young players, the celebration with Saka and Foden was absolutely amazing,” Neville told ITV after the game.
“That goal was delicious, the pass from Foden, the weight of the pass, then the little finish from Saka, it’s really fantastic.”
Saka and Foden looked excellent for England last night but it wasn’t guaranteed that both would start.
Marcus Rashford had started alongside the City star against Wales and both players got on the scoresheet.
Rashford even bagged a brace against Rob Page’s men but dropped to the bench last night.
The fact that Gareth Southgate can rotate his options around Harry Kane without a drop-off in quality is massive for England’s chances of lifting the World Cup in Qatar.
Saka will be hoping his brilliant display last night has done enough to earn him a starting place against France on Saturday. Both Foden and Saka looked like real bright sparks for England and it seems unlikely that Southgate will be keen to change his starting line-up after last night’s display.
