‘Absolute scenes’, ‘siuuuu’: Some Arsenal fans erupt over update on reported £138k-a-week target

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to rejoice in wake of Frank Lampard’s comments on Sky Sports about the future of reported Gunners target Willian.

Mikel Arteta’s charges are believed to be one of the sides interested in the Brazil international’s signature (Bleacher Report), with his Chelsea contract expiring soon.

Willian has plied his trade for the West Londoners since 2013, when he joined from Anzhi Makhachkala in a reported £30million move (BBC Sport).

The 31-year-old has made upwards of 330 appearances for Chelsea in which he has claimed 62 goals and 60 assists, according to Transfermarkt.

A few months ago, Willian’s days at Chelsea looked numbered, the player telling Fox Sports show Expediente Futbol that contract talks with the Blues had petered out.

However, the Selecao star – whose Blues contract was extended until the end of the 2019-20 Premier League season – is now “still” in talks with Chelsea, according to Lampard.

“I haven’t given up hope on it,” Lampard is quoted by Sky Sports as saying.

“The club are still in discussions with him. We want him to stay at the club, but I also appreciate this contract for him is a big deal because of his age and where he’s at.

“I’ve been there before myself, and I respect that. The way he’s playing at the minute, he’s shown his worth to the squad.

“It’s something I hope we can get to, whatever way with Willian, he’s been a great servant to the club, if we can get it I’ll be happy, but if not I’ll certainly wish him well because I’ve got a lot of time for him. It’s ongoing, in short.”

Judging by the social media reaction of many Arsenal fans, the fact the £138,000-a-week man may not be coming to the Emirates Stadium, instead staying put at Stamford Bridge, is positive news:
