'Absolute fire': Some Newcastle fans want young striker signed now, he's a free agent

Newcastle United have just been taken over by a consortium with plans to turn the Magpies into a superpower of English and European football.

However, there’s a good chance the first new signing of the PIF-Staveley-Reuben era could be a young striker who’s currently a free agent.

According to Chronicle Live, Westendorf wanted to make some progress in his career this season, leading to his trial with Newcastle.

His Magpies Under-23s debut, in the 4-1 win over Middlesbrough, saw him find the back of the net, only for it to be disallowed for a foul in the build-up.

Westendorf also forced an own goal and drew a save from the Boro goalkeeper – not bad for a half-hour appearance.

In the following match, the 4-0 Premier League Cup win over Birmingham, the youngster opened his Newcastle account with the first goal under the new club ownership.

And on Wednesday, Newcastle’s youngsters reached the quarter-finals of the Northumberland Cup with a 3-1 win over Newcastle Benfield – and Westendorf bagged a brace and an assist.

While club communications are still referring to him as “trialist”, Chronicle Live has been writing his full name in their articles.

And Newcastle fans are calling for the club to snap Westendorf up – surely a matter of time now:
