Theo Walcott has claimed that Robin van Persie is the best player he ever had the pleasure of playing with during his time at Arsenal.

The former Gunners flyer was speaking with TalkSPORT for their Gameday podcast and made the claim.

Walcott made 398 appearances for Arsenal and helped the club win the FA Cup three times.

He played with some remarkable players at the Emirates Stadium but believes the ex-Netherlands performer to be the best.

The 31-year-old Southampton winger told TalkSPORT’s Gameday podcast: “I spoke to someone about this the other day actually and debated a couple but I’d have to say Robin (van Persie).

“For me, he was the best finisher I’ve ever seen, genuinely better than Thierry Henry, better than anyone I’ve seen because he genuinely made it look so easy.

“He always knew he was going to get it on that left foot and he made my job easy, he really did because I’d do something, give it to him, and you knew he was going to score for you.

“He was an absolute dream to play with and his left-foot was incredible.”

TBR View: Walcott claim interesting but not overly surprising

The former Gunners star did play with some incredible players during his time at the Emirates Stadium.

Walcott didn’t really play with Thierry Henry in his prime, so that pretty much rules him out.

The most surprising element of Walcott’s selection is perhaps his acrimonious departure.

Seeking an elusive Premier League title, he opted to leave the Gunners to sign for Manchester United.

That still hurts Arsenal supporters and Walcott waxing lyrical about him might not have gone down too well.

He did, however, score 132 goals in 278 appearances for the Gunners and with that in mind, Walcott’s choice isn’t really a huge shock.
