Abraham has made the right call shunning Wolves loan to remain at Aston Villa

Aston Villa loanee Tammy Abraham has decided to shun a loan offer from fellow Midlands outfit Wolves to remain at Villa Park, according to Sky Sports.

Abraham’s parent club Chelsea have a recall clause in the terms of his Villa loan deal that allow them to cut it short, and Nuno Santo’s men offered him the opportunity to return to the Premier League with the Old Gold.

But given that the Blues have reportedly refused to cash in on Abraham in this month’s transfer window, the decision fell to the player himself and he told his team-mates today that he has elected to remain at Villa.

Earlier in the window, there were reports that Chelsea were set to take the decision out of Abraham’s hands by accepting a £18m bid from Molineux.

Had that been the case, and Wolves had made a major commitment to Abraham to transforming him into a Premier League player and giving him the opportunity to dislodge loanee Raul Jimenez, then it would have been understandable if he had embraced the move.

But to actively force a move away from a club where he is performing exceptionally well, spearheading a promotion push under Dean Smith, in return for a matter of months at a top flight club leading to an uncertain thereafter would have been a very poor decision indeed.

The young man has made a shrewd call, which is best for both him and Villa.
