A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to praise the Gunners in wake of a report claiming Fiorentina have dropped their interest in Lucas Torreira following negotiations.

According to Italian outlet Firenze Viola, Arsenal had been in negotiations with the Serie A club over the 24-year-old, but discussions have now ended.

Fiorentina reportedly gave Arsenal an “ultimatum” offer of €25million (around £22.5million) for Torreira, to be paid in two instalments.

However, the Gunners are said to have snubbed this offer and aren’t willing to reduce their asking price of €30million (around £27million), cue the Viola now reportedly looking elsewhere.

Some Arsenal supporters were pleased with the report, saying it’s good to see the Gunners take a tough negotiating stance on a player who’s very much an asset, given his age, talent and CV.

Here is some of what was said on social media:

Arsenal signed Torreira for a reported £26million in 2018 and he has made 89 competitive appearances for the Gunners to date, claiming 10 goal contributions.

Last season, the £75,000-a-week man made 39 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, but just 17 starts in the Premier League.

In addition, the player hasn’t appeared overly settled in England – he admitted in 2019 that he missed life in Italy, as reported by Goal.com.
