Emile Smith Rowe finally received his England call up and Jack Wilshere, like every Arsenal fan, is absolutely delighted for him.

The young Englishman has been in spectacular form recently. He has scored in three consecutive Premier League games – the fourth Arsenal player under the age of 21 to do so after Nicolas Anelka, Jose Antonio Reyes and Cesc Fabregas.

Many Arsenal fans were shocked to see Gareth Southgate snub Smith Rowe when he released his team news last week. It just didn’t feel right for most supporters, but they finally have some good news.

Smith Rowe has been called up to the senior England squad after Marcus Rashford and James Ward-Prowse pulled out. He is now in contention to make his debut against Albania or San Marino in the coming days.

Wilshere has been in and around the Arsenal training ground on a daily basis for a while now. He has seen Smith Rowe work behind the scenes and he may have given him a few pointers here and there as well.

The ex-Arsenal man took to Instagram right after it was announced that Smith Rowe had received his first England call up. He posted a five-word message to his compatriot, urging him to show everyone what he’s all about.

“About time, Go show them @EmileSmithRowe,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories yesterday.

Smith Rowe really does deserve his international call up.

The Englishman, labelled as ‘superb‘ by Mikel Arteta, has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season. He has been brilliant in his natural number 10 position and he has been even better on the left flank.

Arsenal look a lot more balanced with Smith Rowe out on the left. Arteta has given him the freedom to cut inside and have an impact more centrally, and that is really helping the Gunners.

It’ll be interesting to see where Smith Rowe plays under Southgate if the England boss hands him his debut. Bukayo Saka has been a real star wherever he has played and it won’t be a surprise to see his Hale End pal deliver the same way on the big stage as well.
