A number of Spurs fans have welcomed Dilan Markanday’s inclusion in first-team training.

With the international break in full swing, many senior players are playing for their countries, and at Tottenham it’s no exception.

First-team club managers will usually call up Under-23s players to take part in their training sessions during the international break.

This isn’t just a case of making up the numbers – it’s a great opportunity for head coaches and youth players alike.

Managers can take a look at some of the top Under-23s in their ranks, who in turn will hope to stake a senior squad claim.

Markanday has been in sensational form recently, so it’s not surprising to see him taking part in Spurs first-team training.

The 20-year-old has netted four goals in three Premier League 2 games for Spurs, including a hat-trick.

He also weighed in with two assists in Tuesday’s EFL Trophy win over Stevenage.

Markanday has made one senior matchday squad this season – in the Europa Conference League – but he’s surely in line for more opportunities.

And Spurs fans rate him very highly, so they were delighted to see him in first-team training:

Spurs are next in action on Saturday 11 September as they travel to Crystal Palace in the day’s early Premier League kickoff.
