Aaron Ramsdale admits he didn't expect to be number one at Arsenal so soon

Aaron Ramsdale has had quite the impression on Arsenal fans and manager, Mikel Arteta, ever since arriving at the club from Sheffield United.

The Gunners paid big for Ramsdale. The deal is expected to eventually cost Arsenal at least £30m. But for the time being, it looks like being money very well spent by Edu and the board.

Lately, Ramsdale has cemented the number one spot ahead of Bernd Leno for the Gunners. And he’s repaid Mikel Arteta’s faith, too, with three PL clean-sheets from four.

However, the former Bournemouth man has admitted that while he’s up to the task, he is surprised to see Arteta putting his faith in him so early.

“It has been possibly the best month I could have wished for,” Ramsdale told Sky Sports.

“It is not something I expected so soon. I believed in my ability to get into the team but I thought it would take a while transitioning to the way they play, new team-mates, getting into the team helping them out.”

Certainly, it seems Arteta has no intention of putting Leno back into the thick of things any time soon. Ramsdale, then, looks like he’s here to stay.

TBR’s View: Ramsdale a shining example at Arsenal

Talk about going into a club who had doubts about you – from supporters anyway – and turning it around. Ramsdale has been nothing short of exceptional since his move.

He seems to have an energy that the crowd and other players are feeding off. And it’s little surprise to see results have improved since he arrived.

Ramsdale is now the number one. His performances and determination are a great example to everyone at the club, and even to players in the Championship looking to make the step up.
