Tottenham beat Manchester United to win the Europa League last month in what was a historic moment for the club.

The win ended their 17-year-long trophy drought, with their last major trophy win coming in 2008.

It was also their first European trophy since 1984 making it an emotional moment for the club and those affiliated with Spurs.

Former right-back Kyle Walker, who spent a major chunk of his career with Spurs before moving to Man City, has now made headlines after making an interesting claim about Tottenham, leaving the likes of Aaron Lennon surprised.

Aaron Lennon left shocked by Kyle Walker’s comments

Walker recently said that he would trade one of his Premier League titles with Man City to have been part of that historic win in Bilbao.

However, his former teammate Lennon was genuinely surprised by the remark. While he respects Walker’s sentiment, Lennon stated that for him Premier League is the pinnacle.

He admitted he had not seen Walker’s comments at first and found them surprising before joking stating that he can afford to exchange one of his Premier League titles given that he has won so many.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the 38-year-old said: “Really? I didn’t see that (Walker’s comment). That surprises me. That surprises me. Yeah, like I said, for me, the Premier League is everything.

“It is the pinnacle (winning the Premier League). Oh yeah, it is. It’s everything. Yeah, he’s won a few (League titles). That’s why he has said it 100% because he’s got a few of them. ‘Yeah, I’d love a Europa League to add to that’ so yeah, that surprises me. But fair play to him. He’s got a few.”

Aaron Lennon’s time at Tottenham

Lennon joined Tottenham from Leeds United in June 2005 for just £1m and made an immediate impact, becoming a key figure on the right wing.

He earned back-to-back PFA Young Player of the Year nominations early in his Spurs career.

He became a key player for Tottenham and enjoyed a standout 2008–09 season, sweeping the club’s Player of the Season, Young Player of the Season, and Fans’ Player of the Season awards.

Lennon, who is recognised for his speed, technical ability and creativity, was instrumental in Spurs’ 2010–11 Champions League run, including an assist for the winner against AC Milan.

His quality was such that ex-Spurs striker Jermain Defoe picked Lennon over Heung-min Son in his combined XI of Tottenham players from 2010 and 2025.

Injuries were not kind to him and remained an obstacle in his career but he remained a consistent performer and a fan favourite at Spurs.
