Leeds United played out a 3-3 draw with Portsmouth today to get their Championship campaign up and running and Aaron Lennon has been among those to react.

Leeds came firing out of the blocks and went one up early on before being pegged back and going 2-1 down before half-time.

Not be deterred, Leeds came back and Willy Gnonto scored a fine goal to make it 2-2, before a late Portsmouth penalty appeared to have sealed an away win.

However, Daniel Farke’s side roared back again and the returning Brenden Aaronson slotted in to make it 3-3, before missing a sitter to make it 4-3 with seconds left.

All in all, it was a superb game for the neutral and over on social media, Aaron Lennon has given his verdict.

Aaron Lennon’s ‘bonkers’ reaction to Leeds v Portsmouth

Taking to social media platform X just now, Lennon has admitted that the game was a strange one but simply loved that football was back.

Lennon, of course, was one of the best products produced out of the Leeds academy in recent times and went on to have a superb career with the likes of Tottenham and more.

Naturally, he still has a vested interest in the goings on at Elland Road.

And in fairness, his feelings here reflect the feelings of most people who tuned in today!

Leeds can win promotion but need to be better

The first ten minutes from Leeds was brilliant and they hit the bar three times before scoring.

On another day, they are out of sight and winning comfortably.

However, like much of last season, they allowed Pompey back into the game and they got a foothold before growing in confidence.

Leeds cannot afford to do that this season. We saw how Sheffield United dominated Preston last night, while Sunderland didn’t allow Cardiff a sniff today either.

Conceding three at home is not the way and Leeds simply must do better.
