A number of Arsenal fans have been commenting on Twitter about the report in The Mirror claiming the contracts of 10 part-time Gunners scouts will not be renewed in June.
The scouts, who helped discover the likes of Bukayo Saka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith-Rowe and Joe Willock, were reportedly given the “bombshell” news on Thursday.
The report claims that it’s a cost-cutting measure by Arsenal in response to the global health crisis, and that all 10 of them earn £800 per month and expenses.
The Mirror said Arsenal hoped to re-hire the scouts – who were informed of the decision via e-mail – later in the year, but that they would have to apply for their old jobs and go through safeguarding checks again.
“These guys are among the best youth scouts in the country,” a source told the outlet. “This is one of the biggest clubs in the world making these sort of cutbacks but football is like a village and every other club will now know they are available.”
It was reported by Goal.com on Thursday that Arsenal could lose as much as £144 million if next season is played behind-closed-doors, a state of affairs that could extend to many clubs worldwide, and as such, cuts are sadly to be expected in such situations.
Here is what some Arsenal fans have been saying on social media:
Honestly no one knows what’s going on at this club anymore, sad state of things.

If true it makes sense….. if no football is being played other than top level, what’s the point in having scouts on the pay roll who watch low/grass roots level football

That’s unfortunate. Our scouting network is going to be important now more than ever

So arsenal have been going down in general for the past years and there is no hiding that. The last good thing we going for us (the youth system) is being changed and in all honest I can’t see it being a change for the better

Ozil’s one week wages would pay all of them for one year…
