Jamie Carragher says midfield is still a problem for Everton despite re-signing Idrissa Gueye during the summer.
Toffees Frank Lampard of course used to play in the heart of midfield and he made a priority in his first pre-season in charge at Goodison Park.
In came Gueye, as well as James Garner from Manchester United and Amadou Onana from Lille to transform that area of the pitch.
But speaking on the Overlap, Carragher said he still does not feel it has been enough and picked out former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Gueye as a specific problem.

Carragher on Gueye
He said: “I think midfield’s a problem for Everton.
“Idrissa Gueye? Did you watch Saturday?
“You were overrun in midfield by (Youri) Tielemans and (James) Maddison at the weekend.”
Carragher was on co-commentary for Sky Sports on Saturday evening as Everton were beaten 2-0 at home by Leicester.
The performance was abject and seeing as Carragher made his comments just two days after that defeat, it seems that is largely what he is basing his opinion on.
It seems like Gueye just had a bad game, like many of his teammates and then it was followed up by a 4-1 loss at Bournemouth in the EFL Cup.
Gueye did not play in that game at the Vitality Stadium, where Everton will return on Saturday for their final game before the World Cup, looking for an improved result and performance.
