Liverpool have been told that it is only a matter of time before reported target Matheus Nunes will leave Sporting.
Former Reds defender Abel Xavier has told Portuguese outlet Eleven that he thinks Nunes will not be in Portugal much longer.
It has been reported that Liverpool have tried to sign the midfielder last month, by Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha.
Xavier has also said Nunes would be a good fit for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola described him as “one of the best players in the world today” after City’s 5-0 win over Sporting in last season’s Champions League last 16.

Liverpool told Nunes will leave Sporting
“I am very close to the structure of Liverpool, in fact,” he said.
“There is a lot of talk about the virtues of Portugal and obviously have Matheus Nunes rumoured.
“I believe that Sporting will not be able to hold a player of this size due to his quality, which means he would adapt to any top English team.
“It is normal, given the quality of player, not only of Liverpool, but also Manchester City, who may eventually lose some players in that position, that these two teams may be thinking about Matheus Nunes.
“His departure from Sporting is a matter of time.”

The 23-year-old looks to be one of the next players who could come from Portugal and make a huge splash in the Premier League.
Liverpool have signed Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from the Portuguese top flight in successive windows, and Nunes could be next next summer.
That said, Jude Bellingham looks to be the top prize, if he is the major player Borussia Dortmund choose to sell next summer.
