‘A liability’… Pundit says £13m Newcastle player has been absolutely dreadful recently

Newcastle United’s defence has been more than a bit leaky as of late.

The Magpies have conceded 12 goals in their last five league games, and that run can’t continue in this way.

Unfortunately, Newcastle may not be able to stop that run this weekend as they come up against a free-scoring Arsenal side that will be desperate to pile the misery on.

Speaking on the Handbrake Off Podcast, Adrian Clarke has been previewing this game, and he reckons that Arsenal will be in for a tight game here, but he thinks the Gunners may well have a chance of getting in if Dan Burn starts at left-back, claiming that the former Brighton man has been a liability for Newcastle as of late.

Dan Burn has been a liability

Clarke spoke about the £13m man.

“I think it will be a tight game, we will have to work hard to score goals, Dan Burn is a liability at the moment, but I think he might get dropped and Trippier will come over to the left against Saka which will be tougher for him, I think it will be hard to score,” Clarke said.

Dipped

While it’s hard to call Burn a liability, Clarke is right here, the defender just hasn’t been good enough as of late.

He’s really struggled with pace in behind as of late, and he’s started to very much look like a centre-back who has been played out of position.

Burn was excellent for Newcastle for a long time, but recently his form has fallen off a cliff, and it may be time to take him out of the team, especially with a head-to-head against Bukayo Saka being such a tough task on Saturday evening.
