Newcastle v Chelsea - BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson predicts result
Newcastle United are in Premier League action against Chelsea at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
While the Magpies now have a lot of financial muscle behind them in wake of their takeover, they’re still in a relegation battle.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are flying high at the top of the table, having won their last three in the Premier League.
Newcastle are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season, and remain 19th in the table, three points from safety.
The Magpies go into the game against Thomas Tuchel’s side on the back of a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace last time out.
Newcastle are also without a permanent manager at present, having parted company with Steve Bruce last week.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are unbeaten in their last five games in all competitions.
In addition, they faced Newcastle’s relegation rivals Norwich last week, and ran out 7-0 winners.
That said, Chelsea are set to be without star striker Romelu Lukaku, while Callum Wilson is back for Newcastle, and scored last week.
However, Lawrenson still feels the Magpies won’t have what it takes to get a result against a tough Blues outfit.
“Newcastle have played all the teams from 13th to 18th in the Premier League and not beaten any of them,” he wrote on BBC Sport.
“So I really don’t give them much hope of getting their first win of the season against one of the title contenders, Chelsea.
“The Magpies have a glimmer of hope in that Callum Wilson is back fit and scoring for them.
“But even without Romelu Lukaku leading the line, Chelsea should win this comfortably.”
