Tottenham Hotspur winger Georges-Kevin NKoudou left the club in January to join Ligue 1 strugglers AS Monaco on loan, in the hope of getting some regular game time.
It’s been a tough stint for the Frenchman at the north Londoners.
Since joining the club in 2016, he has made 26 appearances for the club, with only 10 coming in the Premier League.
He simply has not been able to dislodge the likes of Heung-min Son, Christian Eriksen, Moussa Sissoko, Erik Lamela or Lucas Moura from the starting XI.
Mauricio Pochettino sent him out on loan to Burnley last term, but it was an uninspiring stint at Turf Moor.
Nkoudou will therefore have been hoping to make use of his loan at Monaco, but so far it’s been a very slow start – and it’s thanks in-part to a former Tottenham transfer target.
Martins red-hot for Monaco
Also on loan at Monaco is the Atletico Madrid winger Gelson Martins.
The Portugal international joined the club in January like Nkoudou.
He too had been struggling for game time, but is now getting that at the Stade Louis II.
He’s started three games so far and has produced two goals and one assist.
Leonardo Jardim is clearly taken by him, which comes at the expense of Nkoudou (who’s made three substitute appearances so far) who plays in the same position.
Ironically, it looks as though Martins – linked with a move to Tottenham last year (The Mirror, April 2018) – could be set to jeopardise Nkoudou’s chances of salvaging his Spurs career, with Monaco arguably serving as his last chance saloon.
