‘A bold move’: Arsenal-linked Christian Eriksen would be ‘giving up a lot’, says Duncan Castles

Arsenal could be in pole position to sign Christian Eriksen although the Inter midfielder would be putting a lot aside if he does move to the Gunners.

Eriksen is being touted for a move away from the Italian side after struggling to settle since his arrival last January. Inter are thought to be keen on the idea of moving Eriksen on, but only if the deal suits them.

Surprisingly, Arsenal have emerged as strong contenders for Eriksen’s signature. And according to journalist Duncan Castles (via the Transfer Window podcast), the Danish midfielder could be open to the move, although it would take a lot for him to go through it.

“Eriksen pushed very hard to get that move out of Tottenham. We’ve seen on Amazon the efforts they made to retain him but he wanted to go elsewhere and win trophies.

“It would be a bold move to move back and go to Arsenal. He left Spurs to win trophies and that hasn’t happened with Inter. So he’d be giving up a lot of what he initially left Spurs for to make this move”.

Arsenal are struggling in the Premier League at the moment while rivals Spurs are flying high at the summit. Eriksen, then, would no doubt lose a lot of creditbility in making the switch to the Gunners’ bitter rivals.

However, Castles makes a good point when he talks about Eriksen’s initial reasons for leaving Spurs. He wanted a new challenge, in a new country, so a move to Arsenal wouldn’t exactly go down well.

While Arsenal would be getting a quality player, there’d have to be some questions over his motives in there too.
