'A big fan’: Stones hails 'incredible' Manchester City partner with ‘huge talent' and 'technique’
John Stones has hailed Manchester City and England teammate Phil Foden ahead of the Three Lion’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia.
In an interview with UEFA, the 27-year-old defender lavished his international teammate after a breakout season with City.
Foden was crowned PFA Young Player of the Season after playing a starring role for the club in their Premier League-winning campaign.
‘We’ve seen him blossom’
Stones too had a year to remember after rekindling his form alongside defensive partner Ruben Dias, with the duo forming the best backline line in the Premier League last season, conceding just 32 goals.
Yet Foden was the jewel in City’s crown last season, and Stones was full of praise for the winger. The defender said: “He’s got that fearlessness, incredible talent and technique.
“It’s difficult when you play with someone and you’re a big fan of theirs, which I am of Phil’s and I see what a huge talent he is, you know you only want the best, and it’s been incredible playing with him this season. We’ve seen him blossom and grow into a man.”
Foden form could fire England to Euro glory
Foden’s arrival as one of the top players in the Premier League and one of the best young players in Europe has got many City supporters excited. And for England fans, the 20-year-old’s form from last season could play a huge role this summer.
The Three Lions are one of the favourites to win Euro 2020, and Foden, who is likely to start today for Gareth Southgate’s side, will be key to England winning their first major piece of international silverware since 1966.
With the likes of Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and Stones in the form of their lives, England have the quality to make a statement this summer, and Foden’s achievements and stats from last season only add to the hype surrounding this squad.
