Mauro Icardi

Somewhere between the two previous options is Mauro Icardi. Experienced and proven in Europe, but yet to prove his abilities at the very highest level of the Champions League, Icardi is seeking a move away from Inter Milan and the San Siro.

The Blues have also been linked with a move for the Argentinean, but could face strong competition from the likes of Arsenal and West Ham.

Icardi lacks that star factor which would make him a marquee signing for the West London club, but would also come at a cheaper price should Antonio Conte prioritise defensive reinforcements this summer.

There would also be concerns over his off-field behaviour, with love affairs and transfer requests common off the field for Icardi in his spells at Barcelona, Sampdoria and now Inter, and Chelsea may well be fed up of controversy after two seasons of Diego Costa’s on the field antics when things don’t go his way.
