£9m striker who Sadio Mane deemed ‘fantastic’ is ‘ready to talk’ with Manchester United

Manchester United are currently in pursuit of reinforcements in attack after a difficult first half of the season.

However, the Red Devils will likely have to operate on a shoestring budget amid reduced cash reserves and caution over FFP rules.

One player being linked with a January switch to Manchester United is Bayern Munich veteran Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

And according to BILD journalist Christian Falk, the Cameroon international is ready to discuss a potential move to Old Trafford.

As things stand, “there is still no offer” from Man United for Choupo-Moting, the journalist wrote on X.

However, both the 34-year-old – whose contract runs out in summer – and his current club are “ready to talk” with the Red Devils.

A move for Choupo-Moting to Saudi Arabia in the summer is also a “serious option”, added Falk.

‘He fights a lot’

Once again, Man United find themselves needing to bring in a veteran striker on loan.

Last season, they brought in Wout Weghorst, and back in 2020, they landed Odion Ighalo.

This term, Man United need to bolster their attacking ranks once again.

Just two Premier League teams have a top-flight tally worse than the Red Devils’ 22 league goals this season – bottom two sides Sheffield United and Burnley.

Choupo-Moting is a realistic option for Man United. With his contract running out in summer, he could now be even cheaper than the £9million fee Bayern reportedly wanted for him last summer.

He has also played in the Premier League before, turning out for Stoke City, where he scored five goals and got five assists in 30 appearances.

Liverpool icon Sadio Mane previously sung his praises, saying in 2022: “What a player!

“He played well for us and was a big part of our win today. He fights a lot, wins almost all of his duels. He’s good at hitting the balls. A fantastic game from him.”

Let’s see what happens in the coming weeks. Choupo-Moting certainly has the experience to make an impact for Man United over the course of the season.
