95 touches: 'Fantastic' player Arsenal reportedly tried to sign just starred against them last night

Levi Colwill was reportedly a summer target for Arsenal but he starred against them for Brighton last night.

The Gunners were linked with the ‘fantastic‘ Englishman back in May and then throughout the summer transfer window, but he joined the Seagulls on loan from Chelsea instead.

Colwill has admitted he has not played as much as he would like this season, although that has not been helped by Graham Potter’s departure.

But he got an opportunity to play at the Emirates Stadium last night and took it, helping Brighton win 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium.

Colwill shines against Arsenal

As per WhoScored, Colwill had 95 touches last night, more than any other player on the pitch for either side.

He won six headers, and made a whopping 12 clearances, as well as adding three tackles and operating with a 84 per cent pass accuracy.

Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am happy, but we can play better. We made mistakes but I’m happy for the win. The youngsters played for the first time and it is difficult when you don’t play so much.

“We were a bit lucky in the first part of the second half because Arsenal could have scored one or two times, but for the rest of the game I think we played well.

“I hope this win gives us confidence. Our young players – Colwill, Lamptey, Enciso, Sarmiento, Mitoma – are really good players and I hope they believe in themselves and their quality. They have an ability to play at a high level.”

Given how well Arsenal have been doing this season, it is unlikely that Colwill would have played much more for Arsenal than he has for Brighton.

In the Europa League, Rob Holding has been partnered by a player – on the whole – who is part of Mikel Arteta’s first choice side.

So Colwill might have got gametime there, and the Gunners have of course secured European football for 2023 by finishing top of the group.

He showed Arsenal what they were missing last night, underlining why Arteta may well have been interested during the summer.
