80 touches, 7 tackles: Reece James stars during famous Chelsea win

Chelsea are the champions of Europe following their 1-0 win against Manchester City in last night’s Champions League final.

The Blues secured the win thanks to a sublime pass from Mason Mount which allowed Kai Havertz to round Ederson and score.

The German scored the winner in the showpiece finale to cap his first season in English football in style.

It was perhaps the performance of another man which slipped steadily under the radar, however.

Celtic strike Premier Sports deal - is this the "additional value" we've been waiting for?

Thomas Tuchel’s triumph was built on a solid defence and Reece James was particularly impressive.

The right-back will hope to star for England at this summer’s European Championship and on this form, he’s a certainty to start under Gareth Southgate.

James was tremendous in Porto. He kept City at bay with some smart defending and never looked fazed.

Football statistics website, Who Scored, can back up his brilliance during last night’s all-English affair.

He made seven tackles, five clearances and also completed 43 passes during the 90 minutes.

James also had the most touches of any Chelsea player, getting on the ball 80 times.

He was superb throughout and Tuchel will have been delighted with his defender during the famous night in Portugal.

It’s Chelsea’s second success in the competition and leaves City still awaiting their first European success.

The 21-year-old looks a quality prospect and in Tuchel he has a manager who clearly trusts him.

James is uncompromising in physique but showcases finesse when it comes to playing football.

He gets up and down the pitch incredibly well and the £100,000-a-week performer looks set for an extremely successful Stamford Bridge career.
