'8/10', 'shows his importance': Media wowed by £34m Liverpool man's display v Fulham
Liverpool got their Premier League campaign underway with a 2-2 draw at Fulham in Saturday’s early kickoff.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds twice had to come from behind against their newly-promoted opponents.
The hosts took the lead against Liverpool in the 32nd minute.
Aleksandar Mitrovic rose highest to head Kenny Tete’s cross past Alisson and into the back of the net.
Darwin Nunez then equalised in the 64th minute via a fortunate ricochet involving Tosin Adarabioyo.
However, Mitrovic put Fulham ahead just eight minutes later from the penalty spot.
Liverpool managed to go level with 10 minutes to go, courtesy of a scrappy equaliser from Mohamed Salah.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s long ball over the top found Nunez, who poked the ball into Salah’s path for the final touch.
A great substitute appearance from Nunez, who replaced Roberto Firmino in the 51st minute.
While the Uruguayan stood out for Liverpool, there were a few other decent individual performances.
Salah also did fairly well, earning praise from a number of media outlets.
“Managed to make an impact”
The Liverpool Echo gave the £34million man an 8/10 rating.
“Continually asked to work his magic with some hopelessly ambitious passes in his vague direction first half,” they wrote.
“Became a threat once found and set up first equaliser after another Nunez chance and drew Liverpool level for second time.”
Liverpool World, meanwhile, went with 6/10 for Salah.
“Virtually anonymous in the first half bar one poor header over the bar,” they wrote.
“Much more involved when Nunez came on, though, helping himself to a goal and assist.”
90Min also gave Salah 6/10, writing: “Couldn’t escape Robinson and Ream for the majority of the game.
“But when he did find some space, managed to make an impact with some smart crossing for Nunez.
“Knew nothing about the goal.”
And the Daily Mail gave him 7.5/10, writing: “Almost non-existent in the first half, but a goal and an assist in the second shows his importance to Liverpool.”
