'8/10', 'did superbly': Media wowed by 29-year-old Liverpool star's display v Everton today
Liverpool played out a 0-0 draw away at Everton in Saturday’s early Premier League kickoff.
The 241st Merseyside derby ended honours even as the Reds and the Toffees played out an exciting encounter.
Despite it being a stalemate on the scoresheet, it was an entertaining and fiery clash befitting a local derby.
Liverpool hit the woodwork on more than one occasion during the match, with Jordan Pickford also denying them multiple times.
The Toffees, meanwhile, had a Conor Coady goal ruled offside by VAR, while Neal Maupay missed a glaring opportunity.
Pickford won the Man of the Match award, but Alisson Becker also impressed for his side on the day.
Numerous media outlets praised the 29-year-old for his efforts.
The Liverpool Echo gave Alisson 8 out of 10.
“Made routine stop from Gordon but superb to stand tall and deny Maupay after Everton counter second half and later turn over deflected McNeil shot,” they wrote.
Meanwhile, Liverpool World opted for 7 out of 10.
“Called into action once in the first half when keeping out Anthony Gordon’s well-struck shot,” they wrote. “Then made a decent stop from Maupay in the second period.
And 90Min went with 8 out of 10.
They added: “Stayed alert to make a crucial save from Maupay, having had very little else to do, and then did superbly to tip McNeil’s late effort over.”
