'8/10', 'always a threat': Media blown away by £13m Newcastle ace's display v Forest
Newcastle United got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start on Saturday afternoon.
Eddie Howe’s charges ran out 2-0 winners against newly-promoted Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park.
The Magpies dominated proceedings on Tyneside, with six shots on target in the first half alone.
Newcastle could’ve had a hatful by the interval, but had to wait until just before the hour mark for their opener.
The Magpies finally managed to break the deadlock just before the hour, courtesy of a Fabian Schar screamer.
Scott McKenna’s clearance fell to the Magpies defender, who drove forward and thundered past Dean Henderson.
Then, Callum Wilson doubled Newcastle’s lead on 78 minutes.
The £20million striker lifted the ball over the Forest goalkeeper after being set up by Joelinton.
Plenty of Newcastle players impressed on the day, and the back line certainly deserves some applause.
Schar may have got the spotlight, but fellow centre-back Dan Burn also gave a great account of himself.
“Dominated in the air”
The local media outlets awarded 8/10s all round for the £13million man.
Chronicle Live‘s Lee Ryder wrote that Burn “justified selection with a towering display at the back.
“Won almost everything in the air.”
Northern Echo‘s Scott Wilson wrote: “Another cool and composed display in which he dealt with the pace and trickery of (Brennan) Johnson without any scares.”
Newcastle World said Burn “was quite often up against the pace of Brennan Johnson but Burn marshalled him well.
“Always a threat from Newcastle set pieces.”
And the Shields Gazette said the 30-year-old “made some good blocks to deny Forest the few times they did threaten.
“Dealt with Johnson’s pace well and dominated in the air.”
