West Ham United star Michail Antonio feels Tottenham Hotspur could do ‘something special’ this season.

Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, the West Ham forward lauded Ange Postecoglou for the impact he’s made at Spurs.

Postecoglou currently has Tottenham sitting in fifth place after joining from Celtic over the summer.

Spurs were leading the way in the Premier League before their squad was decimated with injuries and suspensions last month.

It led to Postecoglou losing three on the bounce in the league but they ended a torrid run of defeats by picking up a draw away to Manchester City on Sunday.

And ahead of Tottenham’s clash against West Ham tomorrow night, Michail Antonio says he believes Postecoglou could achieve something big this season.

Antonio thinks something ‘special’ could happen at Tottenham this season

Antonio was joined by Callum Wilson on the Footballer’s Football Podcast and the Newcastle striker looked ahead to his side’s trip to Spurs on Sunday.

“Tottenham will definitely be up there,” he said. “There’s no doubt about that. Where? I couldn’t tell you.

“I just hope it’s not above us. They have held their own against some of the top sides and have one to play next weekend in us!

“It is a good time for them and a good time to play them, I’m guessing, but they could say the same about us.”

Antonio then admitted that he’s been impressed with the work Postecoglou has done so far and feels something ‘special’ could happen this season.

“If they can keep doing what they are doing and picking up points until they get their good players back, they are definitely in with a chance of doing something special this year,” the Hammers striker said.

“The way the manager has been managing them and the way they started their season before the injuries happen, you can’t not think they will be in and around it.”

Antonio will miss tomorrow night’s trip to Spurs as the £7 million man is currently sidelined with a knee injury. But it’s clear he’s a huge admirer of Postecoglou.

The Aussie boss is having to guide Spurs through a difficult period at the moment, with a host of key players sidelined.

James Maddison and Micky van de Ven are set to be out until the new year, while Cristian Romero missed the last three games due to suspension.

Yet, Spurs will welcome Romero back tomorrow night after also being boosted by the returns of Yves Bissouma and Destiny Udogie recently.

Postecoglou will undoubtedly just be focusing on the next game at this stage. But should Spurs get through to the new year in a decent position, they could be in for an exciting end to the season once Maddison and Van de Ven return.
