Cristian Romero says Tottenham have ‘one of the best’ in the league who doesn’t get the credit he deserves right now

Tottenham take on Everton today and Cristian Romero has been discussing all things Spurs related before the fixture.

Romero is now one of Tottenham’s most important players and has excelled ever since coming to the club.

Under Ange Postecoglou and alongside Micky van de Ven, Romero seems to be in the form of his life.

Indeed, that partnership with £34m signing Van de Ven has been a major part of Tottenham’s success and it was clear the Dutchman was a big miss during the few months he was out injured.

And speaking about his defensive teammate, Romero has told Football.London that the Dutchman doesn’t get enough credit for his abilities.

Cristian Romero praises Micky van de Ven

Lauding his fellow centre-half, Romero had some kind words for Van de Ven ahead of the Everton game.

“In this moment, Micky is one of the best central defenders in the Premier League. But marketing plays a big part in how people see you here — that’s why he is not spoken about enough. He doesn’t get any publicity and is not built up at all. But he’s doing so well and we hope that he can continue. I am so happy for him. He’s young, hungry and wants to get to the next level. He has a great career ahead,” Romero said.

Key for Spurs

A top defensive partnership is key for any top team looking to win things and Romero and Van de Ven being fit and firing is vital for Tottenham.

We all saw the impact it had on the team when Van de Ven was out and that coincided with Romero also missing a few games as well.

Tottenham can make the top four this season and will deserve it as well. However, there’s no doubt that this duo will be crucial if they are to make that Champions League spot.

Tottenham fans must be delighted with their defence at the moment and with Porro and Udogie flying either side of this pair, the future looks bright for Spurs.
