£75m Liverpool player has been seriously impressing in training lately

Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 on Saturday, but there were some reasons for negativity coming out of that game.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, one of their more important players suffered an injury in that match.

Indeed, Diogo Jota had to come off early in the game against Chelsea, and he’s now set for a spell on the sidelines.

Darwin Nunez replaced Jota at the weekend, and the Uruguayan could now be set for a run in the team.

This run may be coming at the perfect time for Nunez as according to Simon Hughes, speaking on the Walk On Podcast, the striker has been seriously impressing in training as of late.

Darwin Nunez impressing in training

Hughes shared what he’s been hearing about Nunez out of the AXA Training Centre.

The journalist says people at Liverpool have been very impressed with the £75m man’s attitude as of late, and he’s working very hard at the moment.

This comes just weeks after Ian Wright claimed Liverpool would be favourites for the title if Nunez improved.

“I believe he’s very, been working very, very hard at the training ground, you know, his attitude, I believe he’s been first class, impressed a lot of people, you know, with his reaction to not being the first pick, so hopefully,he should be ready to go,” Hughes said.

If Jota is out for a couple of games, it should give him the confidence that he’s going to get a run, and there’s no better way of sort of lifting your confidence by scoring a goal, going in off your knee or something, isn’t it?

“He tends to be quite good at doing that, there are a couple of big games coming up. He’s done well against Arsenal in the past, I would say, in some of the games, but he’s going to have to be right on it, obviously, in another potentially defining game of the season.”

How Liverpool view Nunez

Darwin Nunez is something of an enigma of a footballer.

Physically, the striker is on a different level. He’s faster, stronger and sharper than almost anyone he plays against.

Unfortunately, Nunez does lack composure in front of goal, and that often leads to squandered chances and frustration from the fanbase.

However, the view within Liverpool is that Nunez can still become a top player.

Indeed, Liverpool believe Arne Slot can get the best out of Nunez, and while we haven’t quite seen that yet, it’s still very much early days for the Dutchman at Liverpool.

Rickie Lambert has claimed that Nunez could be as good as Fernando Torres, and if he can sharpen up his finishing and play with a bit more composure, there’s no reason why he can’t reach that level.

Nunez could well be an elite player with the right coaching and Slot may be just the man to harness his potential at Liverpool.
