Leeds United drew 1-1 with Millwall this weekend in a game they will feel they had the better of the action. Unfortunately, Leeds were also lacking firepower in attack. With starter Kemar Roofe out with a knock and Patrick Bamford out until 2019, Tyler Roberts lined up.
Leeds were a little blunt going forward. It certainly seems as though they could have done with their striker from last season.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga had a fantastic weekend. The German scored three goals in the space of 10 minutes to give Hamburg a 3-2 win over Heidenheim in the German second tier.
It continues a fine run of form from the striker, who scored 10 goals in 33 games for Leeds last season.
Lasogga has scored seven goals in his last three games for the club, an excellent record that suggests Leeds might have been wrong to not pursue a permanent deal for the 26-year-old.
However, Hamburg fans know as well as Leeds fans that Lasogga is a streaky player.
His time at Leeds was split into periods where he looked the real deal, to other occasions when he simply did not look up to the task.
Undoubtedly there is talent there, but Leeds needed consistency up front. Lasogga never offered them that.
All the best to the German and hopefully this is the start of a great run. But as Leeds fans know, this could swiftly dry up.
