£50m Tottenham blow as report claims 25-year-old is set to sign new £100k-a-week deal at current side
Adama Traore is reportedly set to sign a new contract at Wolves – amid summer interest from Tottenham in the £50million-rated powerhouse.
Traore, 25, was a target for Spurs in the summer with Nuno Espirito Santo desperate to bring the Spain international with him to Tottenham.
However, The Mail claim that Spurs were never willing to meet his £50million asking price. His current deal at Wolves ends in June 2023.
Tottenham look as if they are going to play a counter-attacking style under Nuno, and pace in attack is crucial. Traore might have been ideal.
But Wolves are close to ending any remaining hopes from Tottenham of luring him to North London – by striking a new deal for the winger.
Wolves deal for Traore: Tottenham blow, he would have been perfect
Nuno’s tactics are perhaps an explanation to why Steven Bergwijn got off to a solid start – improving on his previous Tottenham form, before injury.
The Dutch attacker has bags of pace and revels from playing off the counter attack. He shines when there is space in behind and Bergwijn has starred.
Lucas Moura to a degree, too. But the trait Traore boasts is that he is so good at getting the ball deep and driving his team up the pitch.
Pace, power, and the odd goal and assist – £50million would have been a fair price for a player that is still pretty young. A shame, for Spurs.
