Raheem Sterling is struggling at Arsenal, it has to be said.

Indeed, despite scoring 123 Premier League goals in his career so far, Raheem Sterling is yet to open his league account with Arsenal.

The England international is off form and off the pace, and speaking on Inside Gooners, Perry Groves has highlighted a problem with Sterling at the moment.

Indeed, according to the pundit, Sterling is lacking confidence at the moment, while he also noted that the winger’s pace appears to have gone.

Sterling has been heavily criticised this season, and according to Groves, the Arsenal man is slower than he used to be.

Raheem Sterling has lost his pace

Groves spoke about Sterling’s struggles.

The pundit noted that Sterling is looking slower these days, while he also recommended an interesting training regime for Mikel Arteta to implement.

“With Sterling it’s gone the other way. You could tell, everytime I looked he was offside, if you do that once, you could be a foot or a toe offside, but he did it three times and he was looking like ‘what do you mean I’m offside?’” Groves said.

“If I was Mikel Arteta, this week, I’d play with one of the youth team left-backs for a few one vs ones and say to the player, let him past you a few times, don’t tackle him.

“Do you know what, sometimes, as a senior player, you’ve seen it all. But he’s lost his pace, he’s lost half a yard, a yard from the peak Raheem Sterling. If it was me I’d give him a go at false nine with Trossard on the left and Nwaneri on the right.”

Raheem Sterling’s pace compared to other Arsenal players

Groves says that Sterling has lost a yard of pace, but the stats tell another story.

Indeed, while Sterling may not be as sharp as he used to be, once he gets going, he’s just as fast as he’s always been.

Stat Sports’ numbers show that Sterling is still one of the quickest players at Arsenal.

Sterling has remained just as quick as he ever has been. In fact, his top speed at Euro 2020 was 34.97 km/h, so he’s actually slightly quicker than he was a few years ago if anything.

Sterling is lacking something this season, and while he may be moving just as quickly as ever, he’s lost that ability to beat his man or be in the right place at the right time.

The Chelsea loanee still has something to offer, but, he does seriously need to improve if Arsenal are going to win the Premier League title.

Sterling was a top player at his best, and the £50m man needs to find a way to rediscover that form.
