5 players Arsenal must watch at Euro 2020 including Zlatan-approved striker and 'sensational' defender

Euro 2020 is about to get under way and the likes of Arsenal will surely be checking out some of the players on show.

The Gunners have a lot of work to do this summer in wake of a dismal campaign.

Arsenal went into the 2020-21 campaign with the FA Cup and Community Shield to their name.

The north Londoners made several top signings, such as Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes.

In addition, Hale End graduates Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe cemented first-team places.

Despite all this, plus Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract extension, Arsenal couldn’t even land a European place.

With Euro 2020 getting under way, some of Europe’s top players will be in the shop window.

Arsenal, like all other clubs on the continent, will no doubt cast an eye on proceedings.

Here are 5 players the Gunners could check out during the tournament.

Jules Kounde (France)

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a superb season with Sevilla, who finished just nine points off the top last season.

A versatile player, Kounde began his career at right-back, but he switched to centre-back while at Bordeaux.

He did so well at the French club that Sevilla paid a then transfer record to sign him in 2019.

Kounde is superb at pressuring opponents, effective when called upon to make tackles, composed on the ball, and rarely gets caught out.

According to The Athletic, Arsenal have him high up on their summer transfer shortlist.

Joachim Andersen (Denmark)

The 24-year-old made a big impact in the Premier League last season.

He was on loan at Fulham from Lyon and did so well that he wore the captain’s armband on numerous occasion.

Indeed, Cottagers legend Tony Gale said he was “absolutely sensational” and suggested he was their best defender since Brede Hangeland.

Given Fulham suffered relegation, Andersen is unlikely to go there, paving the way for Premier League clubs to swoop.

The Athletic reports that the Dane is likely to opt for either Arsenal or Spurs, as he’s keen to remain in London.

Nikola Vlasic (Croatia)

The 23-year-old endured a fairly forgettable spell at Everton but has shone since joining CSKA Moscow.

According to The Athletic, he is “the cog at the heart of almost every move for CSKA.

“Vlasic is key in progressing the ball upfield and has provided 11 goals and five assists in 25 league appearances this season.”

The outlet also claims that Arsenal should be looking at the Croatian, as he has a similar profile to Emile Smith Rowe.

Italian giants AC Milan are reportedly eyeing Vlasic, so the Gunners would need to move fast if they decide they want to move for him.

Denis Zakaria (Switzerland)

Arsenal look set to lose Granit Xhaka this summer, and apparently they’re keeping tabs on another Swiss midfielder.

Indeed, Zakaria currently plays for Borussia Monchengladbach, Xhaka’s old club.

However, his contract is up next season and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Gladbach cash in on him this summer.

According to 90min, the Gunners have been tracking the Zakaria for over two years.

The Athletic has compared the 24-year-old’s style of play to that of Tanguy Ndombele and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Alexander Isak (Sweden)

Isak is a 21-year-old striker, born in Stockholm, who is currently at Spain’s Real Sociedad.

Last season, he scored 17 goals for his club, despite struggling in the first half of the campaign.

Isak is an all-round top striker who that can score with either feet or his head.

In addition, he’s got the speed and physicality that suggests he’d be perfect for the Premier League.

Back in 2016, Sweden icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic said of his compatriot: “I have seen him in action and he is fantastic.”

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are keeping tabs on him this summer in case they sell one of their strikers.

Euro 2020 – which Arsenal players are set to take part?

Just four Arsenal players are heading to Euro 2020.
