Report: Fenerbahce looking to sign Liverpool man Shaqiri on loan
Fenerbahce have made an offer to sign Liverpool ace Xherdan Shaqiri on loan this summer.
According to Sabah, the Turkish outfit the deal includes an option at making the deal permanent next summer for around €7m (£6m).
The ‘influential‘ Switzerland international endured a tough season at Anfield and only featured in 14 Premier League games. It’s said to have caused the winger to tell his agent to look for a transfer this summer.
Liverpool won’t stand in the way of the 29-year-old if they received the right bid according to the publication. Fenebahce are said to believe that once an offer is accepted, Shaqiri can be easily convinced to move to Istanbul.
The attacker has been at Liverpool since transferring from Stoke City in the summer of 2018 for a mere £13.7m. He’s gone on to make 68 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and assisting nine.
TBR View: A transfer to Fenerbahce would suit Shaqiri and Liverpool
With the winger’s limited game time under Jurgen Klopp this campaign, a move away would suit both the Reds and the player.
He’s behind the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in the pecking order with no move in sight for either player.
Shaqiri’s Liverpool career has barely taken off since his move three years ago with the ace only ever starting more than 10 games once.
He was bought as a rotation option for the front three of Roberto Firmino, Salah and Mane, and has done a great job.
With just two years left on his contract, this seems the optimal time to let the former Basel man exit. Liverpool would get a sizeable transfer fee that can be used to stregthen other areas of the pitch.
Shaqiri’s proposed transfer to Fenerbahce would suit both him and Liverpool and the attacker goes in search of regular game time next season.
