Some Arsenal fans were showing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang some love after the Gabon international gave the supporters an update on his battle with malaria.

The centre-forward took part in the pre-match press conference prior to tonight’s clash with Villarreal and revealed some of the symptoms and after-effects he suffered from as a result of the deadly illness.

According to Aubameyang, he lost over four kilograms, was left in hospital for three days and was struck down by the worst illness he’d suffer from his entire life.

The 31-year-old was hit by the disease after joining up with Gabon for the March international break, however, wasn’t ruled out of action until after Arsenal’s quarter-final first-leg draw at home to Slavia Prague.

When talking about the virus, Aubameyang said: “I was feeling very, very bad. I think this was the worst moment of being sick in my life. I had fever three days in a row, all day and all night. Even the paracetamol had no effect on this. I spoke to the doctor and said I need to go to the hospital, because I travelled to Africa so maybe it was something like malaria.”

It’s just issue after another for the £31.5m-rated ace, who also took time off earlier in the season to go visit his sick mother back at the start of the calendar year.

However, with his worst problems behind him, you’d fully expect the star to be fully focused on the mission at hand tonight.

Here are some messages of support from fans towards the striker…
